jlhworks Posted January 8, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2019 Just had a question about this shirt and the patches on it. I was told it came from a soldier who was in Ukraine in 2016. The patches are ones that can be acquired on Amazon and eBay, anyone know if modern soldiers get their morale patches through these sources? Any opinions on the short itself. A ukrainian style ACU ammo vest came with it, as well as another ACU shirt with his Ukrainian name tape. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are sellers in Ukraine who sell these morale patches via eBay, it doesn't take much thinking to see how a solider would pick one up whilst over there. In Afghanistan they were very available locally for purchase. Worn together? NO. Completely unacceptable and un authorized by any command. These items were mated together after he/she returned. RedLegGI Posted January 13, 2019 Share #6 Posted January 13, 2019 For 2016 that shirt would be a bit of a stretch seeing as its the first generation with the US Army logo on it. Later generations lack the logo. The second point is also already mentioned above, in 2016 they should be wearing OCP, especially since they're 'deployed' to Ukraine. Morale patches being worn for daily wear would be more likely, the further from the flagpole soldiers were. Seeing as these guys were working with and training a foreign army, I find it unlikely they'd get away with any kind of morale patches. I'm not saying its impossible, its just unlikely. Also, as Rhscott said, morale patches were readily available in the Hajji shop. I don't recall seeing anyone wearing PVC patches when I was down range 08-09, I think they became more popular and available later on. I've got one of those in my collection a medic wore down range as a tribute to the FSSF, so later on they were definitely worn. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The forces sent mostly consisted of the 173rd Airborne, and not in ACU even back to 2015 as it was a deployment and the go to deployment uniform since 2011 has been OCP flame resistant uniforms. Those commanders are not going to let one of their troops run around out of uniform and dressed out like that. His death or capture would be a huge incident.
