dunit35 Posted January 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2019 This beauty arrived at my doorstep today. It is in fantastic condition for being 101 years old. Purchased it from Legacy Collectibles, who rated it at 92-94% and all original and correct. There is very minor wear on it. I researched for several weeks looking for a correct original one. All of the internal and external parts look to be correct. I also picked up the Warren Leather Goods 1917 dated holster as well. The pictures looked great until I resized them. If you see something wrong, let me know.

Blacksmith Posted January 3, 2019 Share #10 Posted January 3, 2019 P above H, oriented correctly when barrel pointed straight up? Cant quite make out the SN, but if its in the 200k range, thats even the correct barrel - which is outstanding. BTW, that H is Francis Hosmers inspection mark, with a P for Proof. Yes, PH marked barrel..

dunit35 Posted April 23, 2019 Author Share #20 Posted April 23, 2019 Can you please post some of the info from the letter once you have it? Never seen one, so curious about what they can tell you. Thanks! Nice pick up by the way! Received the letter last week. Its printed on a heavy type of paper with all sorts of official Colt stampings. It says it was shipped to the commanding officer at the Springfield Armory in December 15, 1917. Pretty cool letter.
SGT CHIP SAUNDERS Posted April 23, 2019 Share #21 Posted April 23, 2019 NO . EXPERT . Is this pistol one known as the " Black Army" edition ? I have heard that the finish was applied in a more economical manner than the deep rust blue . As far as I can contribute, factory letters never hurt . the sale price of a gun. This pistol is a "keeper"
usmcdoc67 Posted April 27, 2019 Share #22 Posted April 27, 2019 Picked up cool old Colt sever months ago. It's a 1918 dated 1911. According to factory letter, it was shipped February 19, 1918 to CO Springfield Armory. 1 of 2,970 shipped. Serial No. 239xxx. It is an original piece, all parts correct including the two tone magazine.
Spathologist Posted April 28, 2019 Share #23 Posted April 28, 2019 What do you believe that adds? You can learn cool stuff like when it shipped and to who. Gives a pretty tight bracket for born-on dates, and sometimes you get a surprise on the "Delivered to"...
Blacksmith Posted April 28, 2019 Share #24 Posted April 28, 2019 Not on a USGI 1911(A1). You may get Ordnance contract number, delivery date, and arsenal of destination - all of which is readily available elsewhere. You can learn cool stuff like when it shipped and to who. Gives a pretty tight bracket for born-on dates, and sometimes you get a surprise on the "Delivered to"...
