jeffs1130 Posted January 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2019 Well I won this medal last night on eBay but someone got to the seller and she backed out and demanded more money from me... Really sad and disappointed with this Seller!! This would of been my only WWII USN KIA Medal... Was hoping to research it more! Guess that won't be happening! Anyhow, hopefully the new owner doesn't get taken advantage of too! Big scam! RIP - William L Case F1c USNR

GIKyle Posted January 2, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 2, 2019 By winning the auction you may be able to leave negative feedback for it. Won't replace the medal but you might be able to Air your grievances.
LuftStalg1 Posted January 2, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2019 If you have emails to back up this extortion attempt you should notify eBay and she may loose her account! Been there, done that. And YES leave appropriate factual Negative feedback!
smwinter207 Posted January 2, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 2, 2019 On 15 February 1945, Skylark pointed her bow westward again and sailed out of Alameda. She entered Pearl Harbor on 22 February, provisioned the next day, and headed back to Eniwetok on 24 February. A month later, Skylark was with the other minesweepers clearing the invasion areas around Okinawa. At 10:55 on 28 March, while sweeping a minefield off the Hagushi beaches, she struck a mine on her port side amidships. Skylark drifted while the crew fought fires and tried to save her. Twenty minutes later, she struck a second mine, took a heavy list, and sank within fifteen minutes. Five men were killed by the two explosions and, thanks to the rescue work of the destroyer minelayer Tolman, these were her only losses.

Ant1942 Posted January 2, 2019 Share #7 Posted January 2, 2019 This is why I do not do eBay, stuff like that is not right. I agree that you should leave negative feedback and possibly report the seller for that ( I don’t know if you can and or how that works). Don’t worry though Jeffs1130, I’m sure you will find something better down the line especially on the forum, unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. jeffs1130 Posted January 2, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted January 2, 2019 Well I just talked to eBay and they weren’t too happy with her either! A sale is a binding contract according to their policy and they said a report will be file and investigated. Apparently I have to wait 7 days for an item that isn’t being shipping before feedback can be left... You think a seller with 1000+ positive feedback would value that and want to keep it that way! Guess greed is more appealing then honor and ones own reputation… To top all that, she has money in her account after selling it multiple times and I'm left with nothing until Monday! FYI - Don’t ever pay with your bank account on eBay, that's where the delay is according to them…. Always use Credit Card and the money will be returned right away! Lesson Learned on that one! Whoever bought it has a Feedback Score of 74… Some newbie buyer… So probably not a member here that would read this... Probably a scam and had her friend buy it to resell it over and over... Just a free cash advance! PS: eBay was also quite dumbfounded to know Purple Hearts are prohibited per their own policy! Guess they’ll be looking into that too! Happy New Year, Right? :-/

Reporting the seller to Ebay was definitely the right course, but poking the bear by informing Ebay " Purple Hearts are banned on your site " is something I would have stayed away from. Ebay has been pretty liberal lately with Purple Hearts. Having them tighten the screws now would not be a good thing. Kurt

jeffs1130 Posted January 2, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted January 2, 2019 It was only mentioned in the heat of the moment... I was hoping to get them to act on the second sale by voiding it or doing something... Not my intention to have them pull all the Purple Hearts currently listed, as 90% of the KIA PHs I have are from eBay. I have little, to no confidence in eBay... Nothing will be done on this matter... They are clueless as usual... Free feel to talk about the medal, I don't want this to be about eBay anymore... Dave Posted January 2, 2019 Share #17 Posted January 2, 2019 The same thing has happened to me three times in my 23 years on eBay. Two items were sold to "higher" bidders who offered more money after the BIN was completed, and one seller refused to send the item to me after I paid because he felt it went for less than it was worth (the thread is http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/278576-so-what-would-you-do-in-this-ebay-situation/ if you want to read about that!) As far as I'm concerned, you did the best thing by reporting them to eBay and then to leave negative feedback. That's about all you can do. For some people, they simply don't care...but at least it could potentially serve as a warning to other buyers. And maybe who knows...if they do the same thing in the future, they could lose their User ID (though it's easy enough to get a new one, but whatever...) Bummer of a situation! KASTAUFFER Posted January 3, 2019 Share #19 Posted January 3, 2019 The worst case of this I ever experienced was when the seller FEDEX'd the medals to me and then had FEDEX return them to them the same day they were supposed to be delivered to me.
