LCI(L)-739 ARMY DOG TAG

I found this tag very interesting because a LCI was used as a mortar ship in the Palau Islands mainly Peleliu and Anguar Island. Still havent tracked down what unit he was in yet but i believe it was some type of mortar unit of some type. It was a 4.2 H.E. Mortar that was used on the ship. I thought I seen some where that it might have been a chemical mortar company but I am still tracking it down.

Still havent found out what company he belongs to but I did confirm it was a mortar outfit he is part of.

I read about the 4.2 mortar and how it was experimented with on LCIs . The Navy had 4 LCIs fitted with the 4.2 mortar and was first used by the army on the LCIs at the Battle of Peleliu.I havent found out how far this experiment went. I know that this mortar team left LCI (M)-739 before the battle of Iwo Jima and at Iwo Jima it carried Marines. I dont know if they were a mortar team.
