stratasfan Posted December 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 18, 2018 I'm trying to find pictures of some original WWII patches in this style . . . Looking to see if there is a plain embroidered versoin, but would be interested in seeing leather painted or bullion. Did this come in embroidered style, do you think? Thanks for any help! Blacksmith Posted January 25, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 25, 2019 Hi E - heres a link to at least a bullion one, and some discussion on the same: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/261764-wwii-us-navy-naval-armed-guard-veteran-bullion-patch/ Consensus was that it was a Pakistani repro, but a reference at least. stratasfan Posted January 25, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted January 25, 2019 Thanks! So far, that is all I've found too. Someone selling it on eBay still. I'm really trying to find pictures of WWII-era ones, and so far not succeeding at all. Am beginning to wonder if they even had them back then. stratasfan Posted February 5, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted February 5, 2019 Thought I would share this for reference! I haven't been able to find any original WWII insignia! Finally, I contacted a man who served in the USNAG during WWII and he explained it: THERE WERE NO PATCHES ALLOWED ON ON UNIFORMS. A PICTURE AS I HAD PATCHES MADE FOR THE AG PHOTOI LOCATED AS TAKEN FROM AN AG BOOK OF GUNNERS AT CAMP SHELTON, VA. BY ME. THE INSIGNIA WAS ALSO USED ON ITEMS SOLD AT THE AG CENTER IN BROOKLYN ON CIGARETTE LIGHTERS, STATIONARY, ETC. WHETHER ATNEW ORLEANS OR TREASURE ISLAND SHIPPING AND RECEIVING STATION, I DON'T KNOWINSIGNIA WERE NOT ALLOWED ON NAVY UNIFORMS DUE TO SOME IDIOTIC LAW; IF SHIP SUNK AND IT DISTINGUISHEDHIM FROM (MERCHANT MERCHANT MARINE) HE COULD BE " LEGALLY" DECLARED AN ENEMY AND BE KILLED." ALSO,I CHANGED THE WORDING ON IT FROM" USN ARMED GUARD SCHOOL" LEAVING OFF SCHOOL TO "ARMED GUARD VETERANS"AND ON EACH SIDE OF OUR MOTTO "WE AIM TO DELIVER", I PUT "OUR MOTTO" ON THE LEFT SIDE. "WE DID". ON THE RIGHT. IF I CAN FIND THE BOOK AND BOOK COVER , I WILL E-MAIL IT TO YOU.MY BROTHER SAID HE HAD ' USN ARMED GUARD' EMBROIDERED ON HIS WRIST ARM CUFF WHERE RANK IS SHOWN AND WAS MADE TO TAKE THEM OFF DUE TO REASON ABOVE. P-40Warhawk Posted February 6, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 6, 2019 Hi very interesting, great reply you got regarding the patch. I have never seen anything on a WWII USN uniform that distinguished the wearer as Armed Guard. They had standard USN issue uniforms and no special insignia was authorized that I know of. 29navy Posted February 6, 2019 Share #7 Posted February 6, 2019 In March of 1943, the members of the Armed Guard were authorized to wear sleeve insignia that consisted of the block letters "AG". However, In April 1943, that order was rescinded. So the odds of finding a jumper with the AG is probably non existent. Yes the odds seem slim that there are any uniforms out there with it, but I have seen a lot of PT guys who continued to wear the original 'PT' mark on the lower sleeve even well past the date it was done away with and replaced with the PT shoulder patch. So it is possible there is one out there someplace.

He's quite a character and can talk your leg off if you ever get on the phone with him. Sadly, when he passes, most of the knowledge of the Armed Guard will pass with him...
