My great uncle (grandmother's brother) served on her also, as a 5" gunnery officer on his first of two ships during WWI and 23 years before that day of infamy. During WW2, he was a civil defense air raid warden and kept a "field hospital" ready in his garage. I suspect the newsreels and pictures hit home for him particularly hard.
