rrobertscv Posted December 4, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 4, 2018 Picked these up at auction. Not a uniform expert, so any info is greatly appreciated.
world war I nerd Posted December 4, 2018 Share #2 Posted December 4, 2018 Almost everything worn in both images was issued between 1911 and the early 1920s. However, the leather chinstrap on the campaign hat and what looks like gold 2nd lieutenant's rank insignia, they're probably both from WW I. 2nd lieutenants had no rank insignia until December of 1917. Private purchase leather campaign hat chinstraps were sold before 1917, but the issued campaign hat for an enlisted man's campaign hat was a braided khaki cotton 'tying cord' that looked like a shoelace. Sometime in 1917 or early 1918 (I don't have the date handy) the Army replaced tying cord with a leather chinstrap.
