WW2 M1 helmet with winter cover. Thoughts?

I recently purchased this ww2 m1 helmet with a cover made out of a white HBT material. It is 100% original to the shell and the rust stains on the helmet match with the cover and it is molded on. The liner is also painted white. The parts date the set to mid 1944. The name J. V. Prather is marked throughout.

Now my question to you guys is: What do you think the cover is made from? Could a helmet like this have made it to the winter of 1944-1945, or would it be better suited for Korea?
