USMC-RECON0321

Hello all,

My Wife's Grandfather Arthur Ray Furqueron passed away peacefully this morning (91 years old). Arthur was a loving man and sharp as a tac to the very end. He served in the Navy during WWII and after the war worked and retired from Goodyear in Michigan. Arthur said very little over the years of his service in the Navy during WWII, except "I just did what was asked of me". So I have no history on him and was hoping maybe someone here could locate him on some Muster Rolls and maybe bring a little of his service time to light for the funeral. He didn't keep any uniforms or papers from his service, so the best I can give you is his basic information:

Arthur Ray Furqueron

DOB June 10th, 1927

U.S. Navy

Thanks for any help.

Here is a picture of him in Washing DC for the Honor Flight he was invited on.

Hi, I searched ancestry.com under his name and did not come up with anything on the muster rolls. That only means that he most likely was not assigned to a ship during the war. The ancestry muster rolls don't seem to cover shore installations and also seem to be sparse on naval aviation, where they were assigned to a particular squadron as opposed to assigned to a naval air station. Here is his post-war draft card where he indicated "Veteran" at 19 years of age in 1946. Your best bet would be to order his service record from the National Archives in St. Louis. Because it is archival being more than 62 years old, you could also pay or professional researcher to copy it, or one of the forum members,
"mes", who will do it without undue delay and at a reasonable cost.

I Talked to my Father-in-law (his son) who said he thinks he may have done construction in the Navy, so I'm thinking possibly a Seabee, but wasn't sure.

Thanks

That would make sense since no Seabee muster rolls on ancestry.com and be some great family history. Consider getting his service file from St. Louis-- good luck! God bless your grandfather-in-law, and glad you had the opportunity to know him.

Sounds like if anything he was drafted or joined late in the war, maybe for the build up of the pending Japan invasion.

Thanks again for the help.
