Hello all:

Is the finish on this flare gun uncommon? Im trying to figure out how to price it and I do not see many out there with the purple and high polish black finish. Maybe it is an early war thing and most of the ones I have seen are later war, I dont know. Thanks and advance, Skip

I can give you a simple answer since I can't recall the specifics. In circa 1942 and 1943 the ordnance departments experimented with different types of metal alloys and in this particular case (forgot the alloy type) is one of those. It failed to hold a finish i.e. bluing and park. The discoloration is from heat. It is fairly common to see these barrels on M8's making for an unusual variation with this pyrotechnic pistol, neither adds or decreases its value. Someone might jump in and disclose the type of alloy it is.
