dunmore1774 Posted November 4, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 4, 2018 Can you get a pic from the side? Looking to see if it has much of a curve to it
Steve Rogers Posted November 4, 2018 Share #3 Posted November 4, 2018 Attached is the plate from O'Donnell and Campbell. Note the difference in the hook and the better die strike, which they particularly note.

daniel griffin Posted November 9, 2018 Share #5 Posted November 9, 2018 The strike is much too hazy and the reverse hooks are not correct.

acw Posted November 16, 2018 Share #7 Posted November 16, 2018 I'm not familiar with Pennsylvania state buckles. I would however recommend doing some additional homework before assuming it is not authentic. I have a couple of buckles that are 100% authentic Civil War but are not published nor documented. As an example take a look at "Dave Taylor's Civil War Antiques" new listings. The small U.S. buckle with arrow hooks would normally be written off as a repo because of the variant hooks but, in fact, it is a vary rare variant. I had a quick look in Crouches "Repos Buckles" book and there were no examples. It may very well be a repo/fake but just for fun I would hold onto it until someone can verify that assumption. BBG Posted November 17, 2018 Share #8 Posted November 17, 2018 A Pennsylvania state reproduction buckle is shown in Crouches book, here's an attachment. The hooks on the back are different, but I think yours is the same reproduction.
