Windraider Posted November 1, 2018 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2018 Hello, I have here a bayonet M4 from Utica with five grooves in the leather handle. The latch plate looks replaced. The blade has long expiring runouts. Is this a repair? By whom, when and where executed? Thanks and Regards
sactroop Posted November 1, 2018 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2018 IMHO, yes. Also think the blade is not original with that style backcut.
jw517 Posted November 1, 2018 Share #3 Posted November 1, 2018 Nice Hemp Hills plate though.
SKIPH Posted November 1, 2018 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2018 I have to agree with sactroop. It appears the M4 was rebuilt with at least a more modern blade. Utica M4s all had a 6 groove leather handle, have never seen a 5 groove. But, you still own a functional bayonet, just not all original. Misfit 45 Posted November 2, 2018 Share #5 Posted November 2, 2018 It appears to me to be a mismatch all around. The blade does not look like an M4. Unless there is some new information to the contrary, the Hemphill latch plate is only found on Imperial M4s. The peen on the pommel indicates that the latch plate was removed, which suggests the handle was replaced. It is not out of the realm of possibilities that this M4 was put together by a foreign country. Marv
