QED4 Posted February 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2007 I picked up the compas on the right at the flea market last week for $10.00 and am not sure if it is an early one, a late one, or just put togeather from parts. The one on the left is what I am used to seeing and the cases on both are exactly the same right down to the markings and maker except the one on the right is not dated. The difference being, the one on the right has only a needle not the disc with the degrees marked. It does not appear to have ever been opened or messed with. Dose anyone know anything about this? Bob Hudson Posted February 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2007 The earliest ones produced in WWII did not have a date on them. The unmarked disk I don't know about.
dustin Posted February 26, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2007 my 2 cents is that the disc is upside down.Do these compasses come apart very easy, I would start there
QED4 Posted February 26, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted February 26, 2007 There is no disc, it is a needle, like you find in the small pocket watch style compas put in survival kits, only larger. If it comes apart I don't see how.
craig_pickrall Posted February 27, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 27, 2007 They do come apart because they were filled with alcohol and it had to be replaced periodically.
cbuehler Posted February 27, 2007 Share #6 Posted February 27, 2007 I cant see how they would come apart either. Please explain how this can be accomplished! CB
