chils123 Posted October 22, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2018 Here's another Arisaka in the original bring back shipping crate I picked up last month. This example is my first from a Marine. Rifle is nothing too special, just an early Tokyo Type 38 carbine. It's completely mismatched, and has a neat rack number tag and a number painted in red on the butt stock. Likely a school rifle I'd think. Rifle also came with a nice plastic Type 99 muzzle cover with a Kokura proof on it. The crate was shipped home by a Marine of the 2nd Marine Division, though I haven't been able to find any information on him yet. The town it was shipped to is about 2 hours away from where I live. Always like finding local examples of these crates. The crate itself it one of the larger ones I've come across, so I wonder if there was other stuff in the crate originally. It's a little more intricately built than most examples I find. I'd think maybe the hinges and lock were added post war to display the set, but who's to say for sure. Either way, I'm glad to add my first example of a Type 38 carbine in it's original shipping crate.
