There are a bunch of early, pre 1910, M1905 bayonets and leather scabbards on GB. The same guy listed all of them. The cheapest is listed as $650. The bulk are listed at $799. There are also a couple M1904 hospital bolos on eBay right now. One pristine example both blade and scabbard for $799 and a lesser example of the same bolo for $499. I only wish these were realistic prices. I would be sitting on a small fortune! But my point is that these aren't realistic, IMHO.

It's not a crime to list these items for ridiculous prices but it doesn't give a true picture to the 'would be" collector. And, it makes getting started in collecting these types of items almost impossible unless you have really deep pockets.

Guess I'm venting here but I don't understand people that do this. A person would have to wait 3 life times before anyone would by these items at those prices.I just don't see the point.

Asking is not the same as sold, people can ask any price but buyers set the market.

I used to buy a couple of tables at the Colorado show and some of the other guys used to get upset at my pricing. i was accused of cutting them out of the market. I always thought it was odd that they brought the same stuff every quarter with the same high prices and left with now cash in their pockets complaining about the show. Do you want the stuff or the money? I try not to look to hard at asking prices and spend more effort on what things actually sell for. I get what you mean when referring to ridiculous prices, but then again i have been accused of both sides of that, too low and too high.

I call this technique "Fishing" - Good items are getting harder to find we all know this, sellers also know, value is a subjective thing, an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay at a given time. Some people want the absolute maximum they can get for an item, so the put a unreasonable price on item and throw it out there, maybe they get a hit by someone with deep pockets or someone who don't know the real reasonable value. Not really ethical IMO but all I can do is not take the bait. It is frustrating - I was watching a group of 3 U.S. bayonets for over a year... price $999.99 I liked them and would have paid a fair price $400-$500, not sure if they sold or not, I stopped watching after contacting seller several times and getting no response. His silence told me he wanted top buck and would settle for no less.
