Hi, I picked these up awhile ago in a USMC lot along with a winter hood that I will post in its own topic, I think these shorts are PT shorts? and look to be dated 1956 or 1953? I dont know anything about them except they look similar to the ones in the book Marine Corps Uniforms and Equipment 41-45.....they have a RAPID zipper and are marked inside on one of the pocket flaps and have a few other markings on the inside waist band, I would like to know the approximate value also so I can put them in the for sale or trade section so I can pass them along to someone who collects these items.....thanks for any help......mike

They are not PT shorts. In the 1950s the Army authorized khaki shorts worn with the standard khaki shirt as an optional summer uniform, it was not very popular and looked rather silly, I guess only the British can pull off shorts with a uniform. It was authorized for quite a while but was rarely seen by the 1960s.

I found a pair of those this week. Does anyone have a photo of them actually being worn? There is a photo of the USAF shorts uniform being worn, but I've never seen the Army ones in use.

The Army version of shorts was adopted in 1956. There is two photos of them in use in Stanton's book on the Cold War.

Part of the Army abreviated khaki cotton uniform- the short pants and shortsleeved shirt with knee length khaki socks and black low quarter shoes. It lasted into the early 1070's. We had a couple of guys in my unit who wore this uniform on Okinawa in 1970.
