Gregory Posted October 15, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 15, 2018 Looks great. One thing only -- I guess vet did not attach the ribbon of WWII Victory Medal. For such an impressive service he had to have it.
Gregory Posted October 15, 2018 Share #4 Posted October 15, 2018 ... the more so that this Ike seems to be Pattern of 24 May 1946.
KurtA Posted October 15, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 15, 2018 It could also be pointed out that it is missing an American Campaign Ribbon and a 3 year hashmark on the sleeve (based on the American Defense Ribbon, he was at least 4 years service). BUT, it's common for ribbons on such a jacket to be "less than perfect." In fact, I worry more when they are totally perfect and neatly applied on multi space ribbon holders. At first glance it seems pretty nice (especially with that original oval on there ). As always, it's all about the provenance.

Allan H. Posted October 16, 2018 Share #9 Posted October 16, 2018 It is far more common to see the stars on the jump wings after WWII than it is to find wartime examples. Not everyone did it as it wasn't an official practice until after the war. Also, the lack of the Am Cam and WWII Victory don't bother me one bit. I've heard a number of veterans state that they didn't care much about the American Campaign ribbon because everybody got one. The WWII Victory would fall into the same category. Nice jacket and research. Allan
BILL THE PATCH Posted October 16, 2018 Share #10 Posted October 16, 2018 I know this a great group, provenance and all, is 2,900 plus a realistic price? I myself thought it was way to much. but that's just me. I've seen other groupings over the years with way more stuff, for less money. Kadet Posted October 16, 2018 Share #11 Posted October 16, 2018 This group ended for slightly more than I would have paid, primarily because most of the key documents and the photos were copies. Its a very nice jacket though and the letters seemed to have good content. Airborne material to DDay veterans ALWAYS commands a premium. You will find 10 airborne groups to post DDay replacements to every one like this. These are very desirable artifacts and I think the winner got a very nice group!
