bheskett Posted September 23, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 23, 2018 Can someone please show me a side by side comparison of WWI and WWII shelter half poles and stakes?
Keystone Posted September 26, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 26, 2018 Here is my 1917 dated pole (top) next to my 1940 dated pole (bottom). The only difference is the tip which is plain on the WW1 pole and has the metal post on the 1940 dated pole. Tim
Keystone Posted September 26, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2018 Here are my dated poles from top to bottom, 1903 (Spec 673), 1914 (Spec 1136), 1917 (Spec 1186) and the 1940 and 1941 poles. I don't have the WW2 specifications for those. Tim
Keystone Posted September 26, 2018 Share #4 Posted September 26, 2018 The first three were all made by the Ernest Law Company of Philadelphia. This last picture is of them all extended to their full length. As for the pins, I believe all the wooden ones are the same specification (1276). I'll dig out my later WW2 poles when I get a chance. I think the earliest sectional three piece one I have is dated 1944. Tim top to bottom 1903 1914 1917 1940 1941
sgtpeter Posted September 27, 2018 Share #5 Posted September 27, 2018 Thanks for posting photos of those poles Tim. I was worried that my 1916 dated Spec 1136 poles didn't have pins at the top so I'm glad to that appears to be normal. Regarding the pins, wood pins are in the 1889 QM catalog and are the same thing in the 1940s QM catalogs. In WW1, there were also cast aluminum tent pins.
