cmt04444 Posted September 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2018 This guy is named and on the other side has something engraved that ends with St. John no 232. I'm assuming this is a post civil war sword? I'm not quite sure what the mark at the top of the blade is.
Spathologist Posted September 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2018 Roman Catholic Union of the Knights of St. John, Commandery #232. It's a fraternity sword. http://ksji.org/about-knights/
reschenk Posted September 18, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2018 I can't really make out the full inscription, but my guess would be that this is a regalia piece associated with the Knights of St. John, and that the 232 is the particular lodge/post number. A lot of fraternal groups used M1860-stle swords as part of their regalia.
