Rear gunsight, probably .50 cal or larger gun?

In clearing out a family member's estate 20 years ago I found this rear sight. The decedent was a tool and die maker for Singer in Elizabeth, NJ, which I believe manufactured a 37 mm gun during WW II. The only markings on the sight are (1) "H.S." on the tab at the rear of the sight, and (2) "C9812" on the rear of the elevation mechanism.

Can anyone identify this from the photos? Does it have a dollar value to militaria collectors and what might that be?

I had one response opining that it is from an 03 Springfield. My bad, I should have given the dimensions and weight. The base is 8"X1 1/8" and stands 2/3" high. The elevation portion of the sight sits 4 3/4" above the base Weight is nearly one pound. Far too large and heavy for a rifle.
