This is my recent pick up at a military vehicle show!! I never seen one this late in WWII? A US made M1917 cavalry canteen cover dated 1945 yes you see the British made covers and them are some what rare made from 1944-45 but you never see a US made WWII OD one dated 1945? I think the last US made M1917 covers are dated 1938? and replaced by the M1941 cover.

 

Wonder if it was made for late war or end of the war for military horse cavalry funeral detail?

It never had or came with a leather or canvas strap and never had the hook sewn on the back. Has the 3) loops  2) on the sides and one on the bottom and not made like the early M1917's with the five loops.

 

New find?
