I've been away for a long time from the hobby for reasons that some of you already know. However I've vowed to keep my site going for a while and I know that some of you use it as a reference. I'm in the process of moving to a new hosting site as my old hosting site was getting too expensive and the site was not as secure as I would like causing me to spend a lot of time trying to clean things up. The new hosting site is a unix based system and I'm moving from a windows based system. This means that all my lazy coding habits from 1997 to now are biting me in the butt a bit. The site is up and limping along but I will need to clean up a lot of links to images and pages that are broken due to unix being case sensitive. I purchased two years worth of service so the site will still be around at least that long. Not ready to dive back into the hobby but I promised some friends I wouldn't take down the site for a while. So I'm still out here and will be working this weekend to clean up as much as I can but it will take a bit of time so thanks for your patience. And thanks for visiting the site. Good luck with your collecting.

Bob...

I feel your pain especially as www.rathbonemuseum.com suffers from the same issues.

Here to support you!

Hey Bob, sounds like a bummer.

Mabye you can get the domain name WWW.Barely_legal_Insignia_and_WWI_and_WWII_Wings. LOL. Think of all the traffic you would get.

I am still the biggest fan of your site.

Yes, thanks for keeping it going, Bob. One of the indispensable resources for this hobby/obsession, especially on-the-go. It’s helped me out on the fly several times.

Hey Bob, just want you to know that we all appreciate what you do and for taking the time to maintain such a terrific site.

We all understand that life happens, so thanks for keeping it going as long as you can.

Bob, with all sincerity, you and your terrific website (www.ww2wings.com) are two of the best things this wing collecting hobby of ours has going for it!

Your renewed commitment to your website is great news! But having you, the dedicated aerial badge collector, back in amongst the rank and file of the hobby, would be GRAND!

Wishing you the very best... And thank you for all of your efforts in keeping your website open!

Thank you for the kind words gentlemen. Patrick, I'll keep that URL in mind when I want my FBI file padded out a bit. Well the site conversion wasn't nearly as painful as I had expected. Thanks to an automated link checker and a bulk text editor it really only took about seven hours of cleanup to get the site in reasonable shape. Wish I had known that before starting or I wouldn't have stayed up until 1:00 AM working on it this morning. Anyhow, it's up and running. If anyone sees anything out of whack please email me. I won't be updating the site still for a while but it is safely moved to its new home. See you sometime down the road.

Again, I can't say enough nice things about what your website has brought to the realm of collecting. I don't even bother looking through any of my references any more, I simple log onto your site and check it out. Any new collector should spend lots of time reviewing the wings you have posted. It really is an extraordinary piece of work!

It is even nicer in that its not really your collection of wings, its a meta-collection of wings from all sorts of collectors (covering a huge range of experience and interests). One thing that I have noticed is that many collectors (even novice or mid-level collections) will almost always have one or two of the rarer wings that they have found. Ebay, auctions, various internet sources, antique stores, flea markets, etc all give people a chance to collect some nice wings outside of the corruption and chaos of a gun show or militaria show, where almost everything good gets picked over by the dealers and advanced collectors first, and what does get sold, gets sold at a premium (often defined by one or two deep pocket collectors). All the time, I get emails from some new collector who has found some really nice and rare wing that they want to show off. Your site (from what I have seen) uses both the experts and the deep collections of really nice stuff, but anyone else can send you a pictures (and if they are polite and respectful) can have it illustrated on your site. That is pretty neat, and it takes away some of the underlying nastiness of egos....

Or so I hope it does. I understand that some of our less "hinged" brethren unleashed their full wackadoodle on you. Perhaps it was that time of the month, and they felt the need to stand outside and bark at the full moon. But on the other hand, if it is any consolation, there are also a large number of fans (like me) who were always there to support you.

Great work Bob! One day, I will have to buy you a beer. And if/when the FBI comes around, I'll tell them only good things about you.

Bob,

There are no words to match the magnitude of the influence on the wing collecting world your site has been the conduit thereof. Such a great blessing.

I love Bob's site as well and visit it often. Bob had me worried with his warning about a change to the site but I have had no issues with it.
