usaf70 Posted September 7, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 7, 2018 I have had this patch on forum before concerning translation with no success but now it seems it may not be Korean language. It was found with many USAF patches from the 50s and 60s but now I am wondering what language is shown. Any help is appreciated.
lamarhooten Posted September 8, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2018 Unknown on the language but this could be a C.A.S.H. related unit Combat Army Surgical Hospital. The green tree shape being the A. I recall when you posted this patch the first time and wondered the same then. Good luck on an ID.
Bluehawk Posted September 8, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2018 If I'm not mistaken, the calligraphy in black at the bottom looks to be in Japanese hiragana or katakana.

lamarhooten Posted July 8, 2019 Share #5 Posted July 8, 2019 Just found this patch and still would like an ID on it. Still like the C.A.S.H. possible id of it. Maybe the Aviation section? Something with connections to the 91st Div? Good to get this back in the light again and some new eyes looking at it.
Bluehawk Posted July 8, 2019 Share #6 Posted July 8, 2019 From what little I "know" that patch does not have the look of USAF origin.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rod_of_AsclepiusIt somehow does have to have something to do with an aviation unit. The conifer tree suggests a unit assigned to a high altitude. somewhere in an Asian place. Tonomachi Posted July 19, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 19, 2019 Ok I was able to have the wording at the bottom translated for me by a South Korean language instructor at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. It says Chee-Nah Mahn Gahm Nida which translates to "I Just Pass By".
usaf70 Posted July 22, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted July 22, 2019 Again thanks everyone. Now to find out what unit and whether U.S. or Korean.
Chris Posted July 24, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 24, 2019 Total shot in the dark here, but the "California Hot Shots" have many aviation assets including medevac resources. They are a wildland fire fighting organization that has been around for many years. That would explain the fir tree, etc. Just a possibility... Teamski Posted July 28, 2019 Share #10 Posted July 28, 2019 Damn that is a convincing guess!
usaf70 Posted July 30, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted July 30, 2019 I have also been told CHS is the 3-letter designator for Charleston AFB which may have trained Korean Medical Personnel. Any other thoughts to this suggestion?
