New "Buyer Friendly" ebay

So much for the rumor my Mother didn't raise any stupid children.

Somebody posted a Red Spacer Ka-Bar 202420553941 and a USMC Robeson 202420557467 the other night with a reasonable BIN. I've been yearning for a USMC Robe (my buddy has three and I drool on the pictures he sends me) and since the seller combined the postage I took the Ka-Bar too.

I've lost count of how many knives I've bought on ebay, but this is the first time I got taken. Both knives were re-ground, re-finished, and re-sharpened and who knows what else.

Anyway, to get to the point..... I filled out the returns on ebay this morning, and if you chose "doesn't work or defective" your return is automatically approved and you print the return label right then at the sellers expense.

Hope somebody finds this info helpful,

Art

Yea ebay is neither buyer nor seller friendly. They have zero care in the world except the almighty dollar. Such as you pointed as the automatic return accepted feature, which has been used on me several times now.

They are buyer friendly only. I sold a knife described well, photographed well. The fellow grabbed it the minute I listed it,and wanted to return it the second he got it claiming it was REBLUED. I never made any claims as to the finish and to this day have no idea if it was or was not REBLUED. He told eBay it was not what he ordered and I had to pay to get my knife back. People think sellers sell on approval I guess. He is blocked from buying anything from me again.

Agreed buyer friendly only.

I sell on ebay all the time, I try to have 100 items on each month and usually with good results. I had a guy buy a set of VN tigers from me, and over a month goes by and he says that they don't fit him so he wants them cheaper. I say "no problem - just send them back" he says he doesn't want to send them back because he is Japan (not where we shipped them to in the US) and he just wants them cheaper. I stick to my guns and say "I'll pay the postage, just send them back if you are unhappy". He now threatens negative feedback if I don't give him a discount. I reported him to ebay for feedback extortion, which they of course did nothing and he leaves me a negative feedback that I am now saddled with for a year.

Ebay has always favored the buyer.

eBay has changed SO much since I first started there. It is really no pleasure anymore to sell there. The return policy is crazy. Now it's 30 days or your not a top seller I think. If you can't decide you made a good purchase in two weeks you should not buy ANYTHING.

Had the same. Sold something awhile back on best offer, so buyer paid his price. 3 weeks later he wants a refund, but requests to KEEP the item! Finally worked it out where he returned for refund, but he had also filed with PayPal, so they locked my account. Took almost an hour on the phone with them to get his refund sent & my acct unlocked. I also don’t sell overseas anymore. Lost a nice blade marked M-3 that was held in customs. Think the buyers know this, so filed as item not received, so got his money back & it cost me the knife, fees & shipping. Other wartime things I had sold to EU had consistently been held for 30 days at the time, so am sure the buyer got a free knife....

Typical bi-monthly gripe session.

It’s like Déjà Vu.

I guess my question is: Then why do it, versus selling here on the forum?

I see the two options as do something different, or stop whining.

This is self-inflicted, not something being done TO you.

I have sold a few things. I did have one knive returned. Which I was regretting selling. I was just thinking about it for a couple of days and the a box showed up with the knife inside. I had sold it well over a month before for 40 dollars. It was nothing real special just a big aluminum theater knife. Just real nasty looking about 17 inches long. I keep it next to my bed with my New Generation Kabar and a SOG axe.

I had sold off all of my newer knives that weren't of WW2 period. Nice knives but only have so much to spend.

I know there are bad buyers and sellers.

As a buyer I have received fake merchandise a few times. I just post all of the facts that I gathered about the piece and not had an issue for the most part. But overall a good experience.

I do not send checks anymore for merchandise had someone steal over 200 dollars for a knife and cashed the check. I tried everything to get the money back and have not been successfull. The guy just makes up different stories depending on who he is talking to.
