The Rooster Posted September 4, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 4, 2018 Im not sure about this. But Im thinking this is prewar due to the lack of Triangular wire and the lack of XXX in the upper part of the shield. What do you all think? Thank you. I picked this up from a guy in England. Thanks all!

Owen Posted September 5, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2018 I've seen examples of the horizonal lines at the top of the shield, but never this pristine. That raises a red flag for me, it's almost too nice. PLease let me know the seller's name or eBay handle. There are two fakers in England that Iam aware of. Lemme know, Owen Miller

Lemme know, Owen Miller You know I am sure they could be fake. They were advertised as "unissued" and the price was too good to be true as well. But, They look real to my eye. Of course my eyes are a novice level looking at wings. The guy had a pair that looked like your typical ww2 wing off a navy jacket. He wanted considerably more for those. He said he didnt have a lot into them and they were IMHO comparatively to the tarnished pair, cheap. Another thing I cant figure is why anyone would go to the trouble to make such a good copy, And let it go so cheap? Ive seen some fakes that come from the UK on Ebay... but thats not where I picked this up.
The Rooster Posted September 5, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted September 5, 2018 Here is a better shot of it. The fakes Ive seen on Ebay from the UK really jump out to the eye as being fakes. This pair...... I dont know? They jumped out at me like they are genuine. Its a conundrum.
The Rooster Posted September 10, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted September 10, 2018 Anybody have any thoughts on this one? Anyone? Buehler? Buehler?
pfrost Posted September 14, 2018 Share #7 Posted September 14, 2018 It is a very nice wing, but I'm not sure it is actually pre-war. It is so hard to really know with bullion wings, even with photographic evidence. My advice if you are going to collect bullion is to look at each piece as a little bit of artwork. The detail and workmanship should guide you as to whether or not to buy (in my opinion). There are some very good threads on bullion wings on this forum. It isn't a fake, but I would probably say it is from WWII-KW time period. Really nice wing.
KASTAUFFER Posted September 14, 2018 Share #8 Posted September 14, 2018 It doesnt have that "pre-war" look to me. I have 4 on uniforms and this one looks too new. Kurt
KASTAUFFER Posted September 14, 2018 Share #9 Posted September 14, 2018 These 4 are guaranteed to be pre WWII

KASTAUFFER Posted September 14, 2018 Share #11 Posted September 14, 2018 The biggest difference is the way the small feathers in the wings are done on the 4 I posted as compared to the other one. On the 4 I have its fairly consistent. The same is true of the lower half of the shield. Kurt
pfrost Posted September 14, 2018 Share #12 Posted September 14, 2018 Those are really nice wings, and I assume they are on dated uniforms?
KASTAUFFER Posted September 14, 2018 Share #13 Posted September 14, 2018 Those are really nice wings, and I assume they are on dated uniforms? Thanks! Yes, 2 from 1937, 1 from 1940 and 1 from 1941. The large wing on a black background on the Aviation Green uniform is named to an Aviation Cadet who died in 1937. Back in the 30's Naval Aviators held the rank of Aviation Cadet in the fleet before they became Ensigns. Kurt
