WW2 Marine Platoon photo & uniform question

Picked up this marine photo this weekend. I think it's from WW2.

 

Here's where it's interesting. They're holding '03's and not garands. Training? State side? There were A LOT of Springfields around, so I don't think thats an issue. BUT.. there are a bunch with a couple of rows of ribbons, so that tells me it's not just a training or boot photo. Next, are the guys in leadership positions. The jackets aren't Vandergrifts, as the bottom portion appears to be "tucked". Thoughts/ Info?
