About a year ago I acquired an unnumbered slot brooch S/S to the the captioned that is hand engraved on a slant.

Also included is a letter from the War Department dated 22 December 1944 referencing the Philadelphia Quatermaster Depot's letter of 27 November 1944 authorizing the forwarding of a Silver Star that is being delayed due to the number of medals being engraved.

I can't find his name on any list of WWll award winners and believe this is a WWl decoration.

Any thoughts?

Heres a quick search...I believe the Silver Star was for WW1 service as he shows up on Roster for Co. H. 16th Infantry (1st Division) dated 8 June 1917.  He was from Port Huron, Michigan. Born 5 April 1892 Died 24 March 1966  Rank Sgt. Full name Ray Larry Bertholf. Civilian job, Truck Driver. Looks like a nice one to research further with the Regt. known.

His Dad served in the Union Army Battery B 4th US Artillery

I'd like too see it! Post us a picture..... :) . Good luck!

P/S the photo of my relative to the left is from Co. H 16th Infantry!!! Ist Division.  Pvt. George Eddie Lear
