Guys,

Where did the camouflage helmet cover term "Michell pattern" originate? I know that a shelter half that is referred to as "Mitchell pattern" came out in 1953, but why is this pattern referred to as "Mitchell"?

I always thought that the designers name was Mitchell

I've searched diligently for information to support the theory / assumption that the term "Mitchell pattern" was based on the designer's name. To no avail. At this point, the theory / assumption that "Mitchell pattern" is based on the designer's name is purely speculative.

from "Support to MASSTER Phase II Camouflage Test Army Natick Research & Devolopment Command April 1976"

http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a029072.pdf

This is the only time I have seen it referred to as "Mitchell pattern", usually it is just called "Marine Pattern"

Also note that ERDL is usually referred to as "1948" and/or "4 color" and not ERDL in military doccuments

edit: I realise now this is about if the designer was named Mitchell, not about if it was called that. My bad.

Could it of been the last name of a now long forgotten senior officer who was in charge of the testing and approving of these way back when?
