Eric Queen Posted August 30, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2018 I don't own the photo and do not know who the seller is. Just wanted to show in case anyone is interested. A press photo with great content. In my experience photos of US Airborne personnel wearing pocket patches are rare. This is better yet because he is wearing the 502 PIR decal (or paint?) on leather patch. The best part about it is who it is. Frank Lillyman was one of the first to jump in Normandy and later was a member of SAARF. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Press-Photo-WW2-8X10-PARATROOPER-FRANK-LILLYMAN-1ST-INVADER-NORMANDY-70C/163228723530?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3Dc444b2a3196d416ea64eeead936c972f%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D163228723530%26itm%3D163228723530&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A6fa81037-aca0-11e8-9e31-74dbd1802cef%7Cparentrq%3A8cdc43f61650a9cdaaa260fdfffa75ae%7Ciid%3A1
Kadet Posted August 31, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 31, 2018 Very nice Eric! I think the 502nd liked their pocket patches. Here is a cool sequence from a 502nd medic photo album that I own. This is SSG John Durka, KIA in Normandy and awarded the Silver Star posthumously. The pocket patch and early jump jacket are a rare combo.

manayunkman Posted August 31, 2018 Share #7 Posted August 31, 2018 Is that the early jump jacket? It's not an M-
Kadet Posted August 31, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 31, 2018 Yes it is the style termed M41. You can tell by the snap on the belt and the scalloped pocket flaps
