Helmet /w Painted 89th Div. Insignia

Yesterday I attended an auction "in the sticks." Offered was a variety of militaria, with a majority of it being in poor condition. This helmet was the best piece offered IMHO. The liner is present and the chin strap was attached at the start of the day. After several people fingering the helmet, but the time it was sold the chin strap was laying next to the helmet.

 

Anyway, it has an 89th ID painted on both sides. Am I correct that the insignia is for the 342nd Machine Gun Battalion?
