ArchangelDM Posted August 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2018 Hi all Would really like some info on this theatre made knife, marked up for the 2nd Mar with ACE written and 1945. Does this all look legit, engraving looks old, but unsure on the sheath ? WW2 period ? What would a knife like this command in price Thanks in advance - Dean

SKIPH Posted August 19, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 19, 2018 The only thing I can tell is like yourself, the sheath is a cut down WW2 machete scabbard. Since the knife is not a regular production model, it's anyone's guess as to who made it and when. I don't collect theater made, or shop knives, and have no clue of value. Sorry my friend! Maybe others could add a little more. SKIP
doyler Posted August 20, 2018 Share #9 Posted August 20, 2018 Looks like a cut down machete by the grind on the blade in picture #3 I have a knife made on Noumea New Caledonia where they used horn to craft knife handles. The New Caledonia knives are typically marked on the guards. Many Raiders had the knives made in New Caledonia.Mine came from a Raider group split up
Blacksmith Posted August 20, 2018 Share #10 Posted August 20, 2018 Maybe there is similar antler material elsewhere, but that sure looks like North American Whitetail antler to me. I also think the machete canvas material looks post-war, and the cloth electric tape looks fresh as a daisy. I just don’t get the vibe this was a theater made piece. As to value, IMHO, I’d put it in the $35-$50 range as a curio.
doyler Posted August 20, 2018 Share #11 Posted August 20, 2018 Had same thoughts on scabbard. The scratched in name looks a bit bright too.
ArchangelDM Posted August 20, 2018 Author Share #12 Posted August 20, 2018 Thanks for the input gents - as always I value all your opinions. Im going to buy the item and then post some bestter pics of it. These pics arent the greatest, the scabbard is also a concern for me Yours Dean
ArchangelDM Posted August 24, 2018 Author Share #13 Posted August 24, 2018 Well its arrived and the Original pics didnt do it justice. This thing is huge ! And has tons of wear, its also beautifully made. The engravings are old and not recently added IMHO, they show age, Paytons, slight rusting and lots of character. Whats interesting is the X X X engraved in the brass guard. Sheath is filthy and as shown has lots of wear, the rivets are rusted. The knife and sheath absolutely stinks - but that nice stink of old. Blacksmith Posted August 24, 2018 Share #23 Posted August 24, 2018 Hi Dean - Looks the same to me mate. Still feels post-war to me. I do like that 4th MARDIV bag behind it.
ArchangelDM Posted August 25, 2018 Author Share #24 Posted August 25, 2018 Hi Dean - Looks the same to me mate. Still feels post-war to me. I do like that 4th MARDIV bag behind it. Thanks for the opinion Blacksmith, appreciated as always brother. I still really feel at least the knife is war time as the 1945 date and Ace quote feel unnecessary just to sell a blade. Now its here Im happier with it and I didnt pay a lot, Yours Dean
ArchangelDM Posted August 25, 2018 Author Share #25 Posted August 25, 2018 Been looking up sheaths and the one here is a 1944-1945 late war MEco sheath so ties in with the date etc. Sheath is period WW2 - Dean
