Possible early Navy medal or pin

Was wondering if anyone knew what this pin or medal is with what looks like an anchor and possible cross.

I would guess a fraternal organization of some sort that used the anchor as part of their insignia. I think he’s Army or militia since it seems a fatigue blouse (sack coat) with marksmanship buttons on the collars.

Not too take away from the photograph, But theres nothing like shooting 45-70 govt. still a great cartridge coming out of a trap door Springfield.

I think that pin could be a membership pin for the United Boys Brigade of America (UBBA).

It is similar to the symbol of the Western Catholic Union.

It does resemble the Boy's Brigade emblem but not completely

I am sure it is US and probably Army based on the Marksman buttons

I am going to break ranks here and say that's probably not a military pin at all, but a religious one. The Christian cross is in the background and an anchor symbolizing strong faith, with what might be a heart superimposed on it. Its also not being worn as any type of rank or insignia, but in a location that shows its personal rather than official.

 

Just my guess.
