Tonomachi Posted August 13, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted August 13, 2018 While doing some research on the Internet I found this headstone but what I don't understand is that it says he was a lieutenant in the Navy and 1st Lt in the USMC? Blacksmith Posted August 13, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2018 Actually the other way around. He enlisted in the Marine Corps first, on 2/9/1943, to be discharged 11/10/1945. He then enlisted in the Navy on 9/27/1950, with that enlistment ending on 9/28/1954. Interestingly, I see him listed on a Select Military Register as achieving the rank of Ensign on 11/10/1949. Related to his USMC service, he enlisted as a Private, and does not appear as a Commissioned Officer until January of 1946, as a result of the V-12 Program at Notre Dame.
