world war I nerd Posted August 11, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2018 Once again, I have another question (or two) regarding U.S. Navy uniforms of the WW I (and beyond) eras. Is there anything visible in this photo that dates to the WW I era, between the wars era or the WW II era? Also, despite being blurry, can anybody ID the rating worn by this sailor? All thoughts, theories and guesses are welcome. Thanks for looking. World War I Nerd ...

MastersMate Posted August 11, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 11, 2018 There is no white rating specialty make below the eagle. Non seamans branch rating (left arm).. The Pharmacist's mate specialty mark was the red Geneva cross. Good bet that the rating badge is for a Pharmacist's mate..

Bob Hudson Posted August 11, 2018 Share #5 Posted August 11, 2018 Here's a thread showing similar corpsman bags: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=
jweitkamp Posted August 11, 2018 Share #6 Posted August 11, 2018 The leather strapped bags are earlier. I've seen no photo evidence that corpmen of the 4th Marine Brigade used these. The two groupings I owned over the years both contained leather bottomed musette bags.
