I found some photographs of this ship and some pictures taken in front of the forward gun.  The hull number 48 identifies with numerous naval vessels.  This boat looks like a Destroyer but the only one with a 48 was the USS Parker.  That was a WWI boat.  This ship looks like a Destoryer or perhaps a Destroyer Escort?  I've Googled all I can and have found many #48 but none that can be this boat.  Please help.  Thanks.

APD 48  USS Blessman,  high speed amphib transport, converted DE.

One ship of the same class was named after a Coast Guardsman, the USS Rednour.  The USN had 4 DD/DE type vessels named for Coast Guardsmen

USS Newcomb

USS Rednour

USS Munro

USS Satterlee

I agree that's the USS BLESSMAN (DE-69/APD-48). She was a Buckley-class destroyer escort and was named in honor of Lieutenant Edward Martin Blessman. Blessman was killed in action in the Pacific on 4 February 1942. The ship was reclassified an APD in June 1944. I think you can see a sailor wearing an Amphibious Forces shoulder patch in your photo.

You want more Amphibious Force patches?  Here is the front row of another of the Blessman's crew.  Notice how they are leaning patch side in?  The guys behind them are without.
