Found this nice example at Alameda flea market today. I am thinking 1910s to 1920s time period. Nice buff leather tabs still on it.

AAAAAWWWWW!! That is very cool and a great find! I soo wanted to be there today, but am up in the north and couldn't make it down. Tey are pencilled on my calendar, so I am def planning a trip down this fall. May be we can hook up.

Ok so two similar ones on eBay, but they have screws versus rivets. I also blacklighted mine and none of the threading glows. Anyone know when patent leather came about?

Patent leather has been around since the late 1700s and gained popularity in the states in the 1800s. Post WW2 saw a boom in it for shoe manufacturing. I wish I knew when it started use in the military.

My guess is the tell will be the script of the lettering...probably changed a bit over the years...can see differences in the 'M' and 'C' of Marine Corps in yours vs the other two
