To all of you who contributed pictures and stories of their relatives or from their collections, we thank you and hope we met your expectations. CW4AFB Posted November 8, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted November 8, 2018 Just a headsup---if you enjoyed this book, Pete and I have another new WWI book coming out in March 2019---I think you'll enjoy the topic and after having seen the final proofs, I think Pete will agree that the publisher did a great job with the photo layouts and the text.... I'll leave you guessing as to the subject for a while longer because I want the cover of the book to tell the story.... CW4AFB Posted January 2, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted January 2, 2019 After what seemed an eternity, the first copy of Pete Belmonte's and my latest book has arrived from the printers---As you can see, the title is "Play Ball! Doughboys and Baseball during the Great War" In it we tell the story not only of the well-known ball players who served in the war, we also cover the soldiers, sailors, and Marines who played the game in the training camps, in France during the war, and in Germany during the occupation after the war. Here's an interesting tidbit--did you know that a minor league ballplayer earned the Medal of Honor? or that two of the first 5 players elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame had been Doughboys in France? or that the 5th Marine Brigade fielded a powerhouse team with several famous players? BTW that guy at bat on the front cover is Eddie Grant, KIA in the Meuse-Argonne. A great ballplayer and even greater soldier As we get closer to the release date in March, Pete and I will put up a fresh update and giving USMF members a chance to get a signed copy at a special rate in recognition of all the help we got from the folks here. CW4AFB Posted June 21, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted June 21, 2019 Pete Belmonte and I were really happy this week when it was announced that our book "Forgotten Soldiers of WWI: America's Immigrant Doughboys" was selected first place in the Independent Publishers annual book review in the Non-fiction War and Military History category. So many of the members here contributed to the book that we would like to thank you all again - Gary, Brennan, Jon, John, Chuck, Ryan, Steve, Rey, Rogier, Brian, Erick, Kevin, and John E. --Your willingness to share from your personal collections and family histories really helped tell the story.
