Frogskin7 Posted August 5, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2018 I went to the gun shop today and found a nice Trapdoor rifle with an original sling and with a Rod Bayonet. The bore was very nice but most of the rifles finish is gone. The wood is in great shape and the cartouche is dated to 1891. Maybe it's an upgraded model (1888?) ? Not sure. He was asking $950 and I'm sure I could get him down. Do you think that's a fair price?
sundance Posted August 5, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2018 The sling, good stock and the rod bayo are big pluses so I'd guess $950. is not too far off the mark. I'd probably like to see it closer to $750.or $800.
ccyooper Posted August 5, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 5, 2018 Go to Al Frasca's trapdoor collector page and look at the rifles he is selling and has sold. The prices are there and then you can make an assessment on the rifle you are looking at. Rifles with RRB in with good finish are selling in the $900 range so one without finish would be much less. Just something to think about. Al is a terrific guy and sells very nice rifles.

thorin6 Posted August 5, 2018 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2018 A friend of mine just sold one of his trapdoors today, a Rod Bayonet dating 1891 with good finish for $850. With little finish left, I would also think the price should be in the $700-750 range.
doyler Posted August 5, 2018 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2018 The rifles are still fairly plentiful here.I can find them in the $600 range for nice shooters. There was a Trap door at a recent auction here and had a inspectors date of 1900 or 1902 on the stock. It sold for $
