prestoncohunter Posted August 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2018 I had no idea that this was done until I stumbled across these notes at my Father in laws, noticing the Hawaii got me started researching. The Hawaii notes were produced so they could be easily identified and devalued if Japan invaded Hawaii and captured large amounts of currency. Unfortunately I only came across a couple ones. prestoncohunter Posted August 2, 2018 Author Share #2 Posted August 2, 2018 Then I found a couple Philippines Victory notes that were printed in 1944 for MacArthur's return.
prestoncohunter Posted August 2, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted August 2, 2018 And lastly I found some North African notes. Made distinctively for the same reason as the Hawaii notes, easily devalued if large amounts were captured. These were only produced in 1, 5 and 10's. At least that is my understanding, as always any other information is welcome.
gwb123 Posted August 3, 2018 Share #4 Posted August 3, 2018 You are basically correct about the Hawaii and North Africa notes. These look like nice crisp examples and should have a good value to them.
mikie Posted August 3, 2018 Share #5 Posted August 3, 2018 Thanks for showing these. Interesting bills. I had one of the Hawaii dollars that my dad had from when he was there 1942-43. I sold it with all my original collection to fund my move to California way back when. It's one of the many items I've been kicking myself for getting rid of ever since. I never had one of the North Africa ones, but would like one someday. Mikie
