mds308 Posted July 26, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2018 I had purchased a nice estate group and thought I'd share some more of the items. Here are some pictures from 1933 taken at Patterson Field in Ohio. This airplane was the first all metal monoplane bomer by Boeing. It was known as a YB-9 and the XB-901. Wiki can tell you more. The plane had a short life. I think 11 were built from 1930-1933. Their time came to an end in 1935. I love the open cockpits. The photos were stamped from the Army Air Corps 2nd Photo Section Langley Field. Enjoy.

mds308 Posted July 26, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted July 26, 2018 I guess that would make these two images half treasures and half cool. You can see they were overlapped then torn in half. I found these forward halves but never found their tails.

mds308 Posted July 26, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted July 26, 2018 Thanks phantomfixer. I had the "Death Angel" in my notes but didn't include it. The nose image shows the unit crest with the motto "Mors Et Descructio" which appears to be used with numerous units. Do you or anyone else know anything about the arrowhead insignia seen on port side of both planes?
phantomfixer Posted July 26, 2018 Share #8 Posted July 26, 2018 the arrow head is for Wright field...I have seen the arrow head with one or two other fields, but predominately, it is for Wright Fieldhttp://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/268926-wwii-usaaf-wright-field-patch/

Imagine if the war had started 10 years earlier! What's a B-17?
