otter42 Posted July 22, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2018 This slide came with a very interesting letter from vet to his father while in Vietnam in combat. The only thing I could find is this is an Auburn shirt, but what does the numbers represent? Thanks for any help, ken

Allan H. Posted July 22, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 22, 2018 I would assume that the T-Shirt has nothing to do with Auburn University and that the motto is a class motto rather than a reference to Auburn's battle cry. Lance gave you an option to the letters and numbers at the top of the shirt, but they could also be interpreted as "E Company, 3rd Training Battalion, 5th Training Brigade if this shirt was worn while the soldier was at basic training/ A.I.T. Interesting photo! Allan
otter42 Posted July 22, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted July 22, 2018 Thanks for the info. His return address has him in the 5th Inf. Why would they have the 196th Inf brigade as pocket patches? Thanks Ken
militariaone Posted July 22, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 22, 2018 Greetings Ken,As Allan indicated, it may be that the gent wearing the shirt in question purchased it during his Basic Training's stint or had served in Panama where the 3rd Bat of the 5th INF were stationed prior to his time with the 196th BDE.Best,Lance
