Picked these up today. You can see the original maker and Sterling, then a new Sterling stamp applied over the original. The Navigator sheild Is applied over the original. Is this common, I had never seen this done before, but I'm no expert.post-4732-0-93357500-1531971711_thumb.jpgpost-4732-0-26431300-1531971802.jpgpost-4732-0-18557300-1531971827_thumb.jpg

Likely a 1947 era conversion piece made quickly to provide the new Nav wing badge utilizing present stock/ My 2-cents. Bobgee

That is a really cool wing. It looks to me that they restruck an AMCRAFT pilot wing with a new excised sterling mark (you can see the remnants of the original hallmark) before adding the new navigator device. I wonder why they went to all that trouble?

Very interesting.

Thanks for the input. I wondered why they would stamp over the maker mark too. Maybe had to do it because of altering the original piece. Do you think these were just pilot wings?

otter42,

Not common at all, 1st one I've seen; and I agree with Bobgee's, Costa's and Patrick's assessments. Thanks for sharing!!
