Airborne-Hunter Posted July 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2018 I need some help with these tags. A friend of mine bought some trunks out of his neighbor's estate probably 20 years ago. He stored it in a barn, but the barn has begun to fail so he is slowly getting rid of everything. As he goes through the stuff, he's been bringing me the military stuff. These tags came out of one of the trunks with some WW1 Officer USMC EGA's. When I run the name, he comes up all over as USMC and as a Marine Aviator to boot, but I can't figure out what "E.R.C." stands for? Does anyone have any clue what this means /what is going on here/ what I am missing? Also he is listed as a Lieutenant when he was killed in March 1918, but the tags say Captain? Thanks ABN
Marchville1918 Posted July 18, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2018 I believe that ERC has something to do with a college reserve training program. Don't know what E stands for but RC would be Reserve Corps.

Airborne-Hunter Posted July 18, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted July 18, 2018 Is Enlisted Reserve Corps correct for an officer? He was a Law Student at U.C. Berkeley before going into the marines.
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted July 18, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2018 Wouldn't the USA indicate he was Army though?
aznation Posted July 18, 2018 Share #7 Posted July 18, 2018 There's a Captain Loui Beauman that was in the Engineers, born in 1868 and died in 1921. I believe that's the dog tag you have. Then there's Loui Charles Beauman, who died a 2nd Lt in the U.S.M.C. He was born 27 Oct, 1894 in Hondo, Coahuila, Mexico. I don't believe the dog tag you have is this one. This Loui C. Beuman was never a Captain.
warguy Posted July 18, 2018 Share #8 Posted July 18, 2018 Yep, those are army tags not Marine. Would love to see the egas found in the same barn though.

aznation Posted July 18, 2018 Share #16 Posted July 18, 2018 Captain Loui Beauman, the Army Engineer born in 1868 and died in 1921 is actually the father of 2nd Lt. Loui Charles Beauman, the Marine aviator that was born in 1894 and died in 1918. That's why there are U.S.M.C. ega's in the trunk of Captain Loui Beauman. They most likely belonged to his son. Well that explains that. The same guy says there a Purple Heart too. The son was killed in an accident stateside so I am unsure whose Purple Heart it is, but I haven't seen it yet. Will see about that soon. Will post the EGA's tonight
aznation Posted July 18, 2018 Share #18 Posted July 18, 2018 Great !!! Can't wait to see the PH and EGA's. Looking forward to it.
warguy Posted July 18, 2018 Share #19 Posted July 18, 2018 Hard to say who the PH will belong to. Wasn’t instituted until 1932, and then the WWI vets had to apply to receive it. Both father and son were gone by then. Will be interesting. Kevin
C. Roelens Posted July 18, 2018 Share #20 Posted July 18, 2018 Wouldn't the USA indicate he was Army though? Yes. The dog tags are clearly stamped United States Army (U.S.A.), not United States Marine Corps (U.S.M.C.).
Airborne-Hunter Posted July 19, 2018 Author Share #21 Posted July 19, 2018 This is a picture of the front of the three EGA's that came with the tags. I haven't seen the Purple Heart and supposedly theres some paper work and a bunch more stuff in the house. I only have the tags and these EGA's for the moment.
