Early U.S. Holster or Civilian?

What are your thoughts on this Holster?

Military or Civilian

No markings anywhere.

Interesting holster. Is not US military, looks like it may be for the Lugar. It is not one of the "Trials" Lugar US holsters, they were US embossed on the flap, made at RIA. Many European holsters had a pouch for an extra magazine. This may be a commercial US made holster for the Lugar. You may want to use a tooth pick and gently clean the green verdigris off around the brass, it can actually pull the leather away from the brass. Thanks for posting it.

I am with Brian on this one. It looks to be a civilian version of the Luger holster developed at Rock Island Arsenal when the Luger was being evaluated by the Army. The USGI versions were very well marked, so this is almost certainly a civilian holster. Keep in mind that before WW1 the Luger was sold commercially by the DWM company around the world, and in the USA as well. Those US imported guns needed civilian holsters. This looks to be one of them.

 

The image below, ripped from the net, shows the USGI version of the holster. The overall shape is unmistakably similar.
