usmce4 Posted July 15, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 15, 2018 I picked up a collection and in it are a bunch of GI 30-06 "Duplex" & "Triplex" rounds. Both the long-necked variety and the standard size SALVO ones. Most are headstamped WCC or WRA 56, 57, & 58. I can't find any "for sale" listings to get an idea of the current prices and the last one I can find that was sold is from a 2011 auction. Can anybody give me any info re current prices you might have seen or gotten or paid lately? I'll post some pics for reference tomorrow Thanks in advance for any help, Art

usmce4 Posted July 17, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted July 17, 2018 For those interested in Duplex and Triplex, the following is Public Domain info courtesy of the IAA: "Easier to come by" refers to the previous paragraph (not quoted here) regarding the attempts made in the UK to develop this round Easier to come by are the rounds from Project Salvo (1952-61) which involved Olin Mathieson (parent company to what we call Winchester and Western). These used either standard-length cases or cases with an extended neck. On standard-length cases, the case held either 2 (96gr) or 3 (60gr) bullets. You cannot tell reliably how many bullets without x-raying the round. You can find them with the top bullet marked with a red, blue or black tip, or entirely red. The significant of these color codes has yet to be determined. On the long-neck version, the duplex rounds have crimps on the case neck about 1/10-inch above the shoulder. The triplex load has crimps at the juncture between the neck and the shoulder. The long-necked rounds can also be found with the same color coding as mentioned above, and used the same bullets. One interesting fact is the use of a small powder change between the bullets to aid in separation. Rounds from this series bear headstamps such as WRA 53, SUPERSPEED 30-06 SPRG, WCC 57 and FA 58 MATCH. Hope somebody besides me finds this stuff interesting, Art
mikie Posted July 17, 2018 Share #8 Posted July 17, 2018 Yep. There is at least one person who finds this interesting. My new thing learned for the day! Mikie

usmce4 Posted July 18, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted July 18, 2018 I'm glad others find this interesting. I've been collecting cartridges more years than I care to say and these are the first I've ever seen, much less owned. I was beginning to think I was the only one interested in them. Here are schematic cut-aways of the short neck ones Art
AZPhil Posted July 18, 2018 Share #11 Posted July 18, 2018 Very Cool. I didn't know about these types of 30-06. Thank You! Semper Fi Phil
pmanton Posted July 18, 2018 Share #12 Posted July 18, 2018 I ran into duplex rounds in RVN in 7.62 (.308) If memory serves me right, they had a green tip. Paul Salome, AZ
STG44 Posted July 18, 2018 Share #13 Posted July 18, 2018 Very cool, I've never heard of them. What was the purpose behind them?
usmce4 Posted July 19, 2018 Author Share #14 Posted July 19, 2018 Very cool, I've never heard of them. What was the purpose behind them? Honestly, I have no idea. It doesn't seem like a logical or useful item to me. But it is a rare item and will get a prominent place in my collection. Art
mikie Posted July 19, 2018 Share #15 Posted July 19, 2018 One of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time.
