Dear Forum,

Just read with interest the previous posts...

I confess my knowledge of Navy wings is much limited.

Would you please also comment on these HH hallmarked navigator wings?

Thank you,

Dominique

They are fine. I believe that these wings were briefly authorized just after WWII. But the exact dates elude me

Just an FYI, this type of wing was re-introduced in the late 1950's by the USMC for their enlisted navigators-not sure how long it was in service for but these were awarded. There was an article in the Trading Post in Jan/Mar 1989 showing the insignia of vet who had this type of wing.

Post V/N the enlisted gunners of HAL-3 were authorized to wear them. Most of their heroic missions were classified until recently. They are now the most decorated USN squadron in V/N history. Also, USMC gunners who have seen combat are authorized to wear them.

Owen are you sure they let enlisted gunners wear an obsolete navigator wing? The USN had a proscribed combat aircrewman's wing that was used. Maybe you have the two mixed up? Just wondering

I see them frequently at NASP. Also, I've asked several

of them about it. May be a case of "worn but not authorized".
