Collectible

Hello Gentleman and Ladies, Collectors & Dealers,

I've known about this forum for quite awhile but just decided to join. My interests in collecting militaria is not limited to any conflict, region, or nationality. The only limitations are my knowledge, thus the reason I joined this forum. I'm looking forward to participating in discussions and offering assistance, or advice where my knowledge and experience may be greater than others. More importantly I'm here to learn from other members here about their passions and why collecting certain items is important to them.

Most of my experience is with Pre-1900 firearms and swords, mainly from the American Civil War, but I do also posses a fair amount of experience with European arms and accouterments from the same period.

My main passion is the historical aspect and how these items give us some insight into the lives of past servicemen and women. I enjoy returning identifiable items back to families whenever possible. Just recently I returned voice recordings made during World War II, one on VJ day, back to the family and the Veteran. The family acquired a record player, and played the three records for the Veteran. He did not recall making the recordings or what was on them when I first contacted him (He is in his 90's, I probably wouldn't remember either). The family wrote me a few months ago to tell me they played the records with the entire family present and the Veteran started to remember where, when, and why. They also told me he recalled a few stories to share with the family and that they were overjoyed that they got to share this moment with him.

The heartfelt letter from the family has been the best thing I've come across in my years of buying, selling, and collecting. Reading about others returning items to families and Veterans on this forum is the reason why I've joined. I look forward to learning from you all and contributing where I can.

Thank you,

Robert

Welcome! I've only been to NC for a few days about 8 years ago for work. Got to see Bentonville and Guilford Courthouse between work hours. I'd love to get back there sometime. I did a fair amount of driving around there and I have never seen such clean and well maintained roads.

I'm surprised to see so many NC collectors here! I appreciate the warm welcome.

Thank you doingworkivans

Thank you bdale, been to Cary several times, very nice place, wouldn't mind living there!

TarheelTim, thank you sir, probably the most exciting thing that I can recall in my short time collecting. I've found and helped identify/evaluate some interesting and impressive items, but nothing comes close to the letter. It was hand written by his wife on behalf on the family who is the sharpest 90 something year old I've ever talked to, making it even more special to me.

Jack, thank you, looking forward to learning.

USMilitaryMuseum, Nice to meet you as well! Concord has one of my favorite Italian restaurants oddly enough! I like the down town area, good mixture of stuff.

Mikie, Thank you for the welcome, I hope you get to make it back here some day. The state maintained roads are very well taken care of for the most part!

Ed, I believe we have done some business in the past at a gun show. I think I traded you something German (don't recall in the faintest what it was) for a Model 1861 Springfield. I think I've seen you post some pictures of your displays on Facebook! They were probably from your shop and were incredibly nice, I'll definitely have to stop by your shop when I'm going through the area. If you still come to the gun shows in Charlotte, I'll pop by and say hello next time I attend one. I'll bring something German again to trade for pre 1900 stuff.

Regards Everyone,

Robert
