copper252 Posted July 10, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2018 Hello, I bought this Wolf Brown PUC with a bunch of 1/2 Inch Bars. I am wondering about the holes, disregard the middle hole I accidentally made it. The 2 original holes are too close for there to be 2 Stars but too wide for one star to fit. If there is a special star that fits I would like to find one and restore it for my Americal Uniform. -Seth
Brig Posted July 10, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2018 Could be the vet used the large star from personal awards, or one of the large foreignade stars. Not unusual to see done back then
copper252 Posted July 10, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted July 10, 2018 Do you have any pics of either of those devices? I am going to look around for the correct device.
Bruce Linz Posted July 10, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2018 During WWII there were 3/16 inch bronze stars that had two prongs on the back. They were actually part of two of the star's points and bent back. Their spacing is quite wide. See this forum post for what theses stars look like. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/311464-fs-vintage-hardware-attachments-and-devices-for-ribbons/ Semper Fi, Bruce Linz
copper252 Posted July 10, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted July 10, 2018 Alright, do you know any Blue PUC stars were made with the wide prongs?
Brig Posted July 11, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2018 While blue was the by-the-book PUC star color throughout the way...it was often disregarded. I have a WB PUC on a Paramarine's group that has multiple stars, all of which were bronze. Don't get wrapped around the axle about the blue ones
copper252 Posted July 11, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted July 11, 2018 Alright, I will start looking for a good star. If anybody has any for sale or trade, I would be interested. -Seth
