Looks like, but not real. The holes are painted on black dots. Authentic early SF crests have pierced holes where these have black dots.

The knife on this example looks correct with a fat handle. If I were to make a call on this I would say that it is a copy. Also real ones are usually maker marked.

Here is an authentic old style SF Crest or Distinctive Insignia. It has two holes or "eyes" and gives an appearance of skulls.

Shown here is the back side of an authentic early SF crest. Not the hallmark, GEMSCO. NS Meyer also made these and perhaps a few others as well.

For what you paid, I think you did good. I have not seen one like yours before, so it might even be a local made piece. So I'd be happy with it and call it a variation.

I saw one that looks very similar on Ebay for $240.00, but wanted to hear more opinions about it. My concerns were the same as you pointed out, painted eyes and no hallmark. Anyway, I will hold on to it for now. By the way when I bought it, it came with metal and cloth tabs, still in original N. S. MEYER holders with dates stamped 1966.
