100% Duty Badge - XXIII Corps Union Army?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone familiar with this badge? I’m trying to determine if it is from the XXIII (23rd) Corps of the Union Army; the 23rd Regiment Infantry Regiment or if it is a state militia badge. The measures approximately 2” inches in height and 1.25” inches width and weighs 1.20 oz. I’m going to guess it dates from the mid to late 1800’s due to the knapsack and bedroll design. Any help or point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks,

John

I'd say it's a State National Guard medal from the late 1800's (100% Duty is an achievement commonly warranting the award of a medal among National Guard Units). The "23" probably corresponds to "Regiment."

I agree with Kurt, with some more research you can find which unit! Defiantly no Civil war connection! Most likely from New York most of the ones I have seen like this are from New York!

Gents, thanks for the replies. I did find two State Guard units (NY & MI) that are designated 23rd Infantry Regt.

The 23rd Mich. Inft. was a CW unit.

This is not a civil war badge! We are positive it is NYNG circa 1880s- early 1900s
